Shakers march on

There wasnt a great deal you could say about the first 20 odd minutes of this match other than ‘mindnumbing’.

The only thing of note that really happened was Challinor having to come off and be replaced by Baker, who took Scottys position in midfield while Scott dropped back to fill Challys place in defence. That piece of action took place after 5 minutes and apart from that, not much.

The first shot on goal was from the Shakers after about 22 minutes and it was Baker with it, but straight at Tyler in the Peterbro goal.

Cue another 10 minutes or so of complete boredom which gave everyone a chance to take a nap.

Finally the game developed some kind of pulse when Bullock picked up on a long ball, passed it through to Bishop, who in turn laid it off to Baker and Baker put the ball into the back of the net.

Posh finally got out of neutral with the first half coming to a close with a succession of corners, but none really threatened, and then all clamoured for a handball when a cross hit Futcher on the arm, which didnt even remotely look deliberate.

End of the half, Bury 1 Posh 0

The Posh players obviously got a bit of earache off their manager at halftime because they came out in an altogether different mood and in a half that brought back memories of the Leeds game, pretty much dominated the second half, there was one slight difference though and that was shooting. Whereas Provett in the Bury goal was throwing himself about like a lunatic to keep Leeds out, he could have gone for a deckchair, a beer, a good book and just set himself up like that for the majority of this game.

Haslam cleared the ball off the line on 50 minutes (no need for Provett there then) which resulted in virtually every Posh player haranguing the referee and suggesting it had crossed the line, Mackail-Smith walloped the ball into the side netting for the away side on 53 minutes (again no need for Provett) and Gnakpa shot well wide from a corner.

Hurst could have pretty much settled the game for Bury in the 60th minute but his shot came back off the keeper then rebounded again off Hurst and then hit the post.

In truth the scond half could really be summed up by saying that Posh had the bast majority of posession, but did nothing with it. Some of their players looked terrified of shooting and those who did couldnt find the target.

Bury finally wrapped it all up in the 84th minute when Bishop snaffled the ball of Day on the halfway line and raced towards the Posh goal, laying it off to Mangan when the last defender had been drawn in and Mangan put it in the net.

Game over and three more points for the Shakers, one defeat in twelve now.
Anyone for a bet on promotion yet?
