Phil Picken today signed a 12 month contract at Gigg Lane following a very impressive trial at the club.

After joining Chesterfield on loan from Manchester United in 2005 he impressed and signed on a permanent basis in 2006 where he went on to make a further 108 appearances at Saltergate, before falling out of favour and being loaned to Notts County in 2009.

Although new manager John Sheridan made him first choice right back, he was released at the end of last season.

During his trial at Gigg Lane he impressed against Leeds and Rochdale, improving the strength of the defence after Paul Scott was released.

Picken will wear the number 2 shirt during his stay with the shakers.

Kyle Bennet, brother of former shaker Elliot, also signed a 12 month contract at the club today along with Picken.

Bennet was released from Wolves at the end of the season and has impressed with his pace and flair during his trial games. Bennets pace and skill will tear most league two defences apart this season.

Bennet will take the number 17 whilst at the club.

French box to box midfielder Damien Mozika is set to sign for the club after agreeing terms, the club is currently waiting for international clearance before he is able to put pen to paper. He has previously played for AS Nancy and Chester City.
