Craig Madden was born on 25 September 1958. After playing for Northern Nomads, in 1977 he got his first professional deal at Bury, spending nine years at Gigg Lane from 1977 to 1986, he still holds the record for the most goals scored at the club, with 129 goals in nearly 300 appearances.

Madden also holds another club record from the 81/82 season with 35 goals.

After leaving Gigg Lane he spent a season with West Brom making only 12 appearances before moving on to Blackpool making another 94 appearances scoring 24 goals for the tangerines before being sent on loan and eventually leaving the club for nearby Fleetwood Town, where he finished his playing career.

In 2001, Madden became caretaker manager of Stockport County after the dismissal of Andy Kilner. He was at the club coaching Stockport’s youth team having also helped with the first team in the past.

Most recently in june 2010 it was announced he has signed at fleetwood Town again as assistant manager to Mickey Mellon, following their promotion.
