Flitcroft Disappointed With Defence

Manager David Flitcroft has admitted that defence is our Achilles heel at the moment following the three all draw with Crewe at the weekend.

In quotes carried by the Manchester Evening News from his post game press conference, Flicker knows that whilst we are clicking up front, we are conceding goals way too easily at the moment and if we really want to make our mark this year on League One then we need to sort that out quickly.

‘At the minute it`s our Achilles heel. It`s something we were outstanding at last season, and I don`t think it`s just stepping up a level. I think that, individually and collectively, we`ve got to tighten up on that. It`s something we`ll keep working towards and try to improve. There`s a different quality in this league, for sure. Danny Mayor`s goal was outstanding and the other two were good goals. But the goals we`re conceding aren`t good goals. They only got into our box four times so there is a concern.’

The main annoyance for Flitcroft was that he felt we were in complete control of the game and the number of chances we had in the match was very pleasing but it was very much a case of every time they did have an attack they scored and pegged us back from it.

‘We completely controlled the game and created chance after chance so to concede three goals in not acceptable. It`s not understandable but we`ll certainly get it right.’

Going into the Capital One Cup second round tie against free scoring it seems Leicester City there certainly needs to be an improvement defensively if we are to have any chance of pulling off a shock and progressing through to the next round.
