Bury and manager David Flitcroft have now completed the season long loan signing of Brighton and Hove Albion goalkeeper Christian Walton.

The 19 year old England Under 20 stopper joined us yesterday for a loan spell and he joined up with his new colleagues as we made our return from the pre season tour.

Speaking to the Official Site Flicker was obviously delighted with the capture as given the speculation surrounding the move it had gone on for a little while.

‘We are delighted to secure the services of Christian for this season. He is someone we have been monitoring and tracking for a long time. Like any player we bring into the environment we have created we have done due diligence on Christian and have had incredibly positive feedback.’

Flitcroft went on to say that Walton arrives with great references from ‘outstanding well respected football people’ and they have all been complimentary about not only his goalkeeping talents, and the potential he has, but also his attitude and desire to learn so he clearly fits within the DNA of targets we are looking at.

‘Christian shows a great desire to keep the ball out of the net and maintains a strong presence within his area. He has superb agility and mobility and is extremely comfortable in possession of the ball when distributing from his hands or with his feet. The hunger he showed to join us and belief in what we are trying to achieve as a football club was something I was massively drawn to. Christian is desperate to eventually become Brighton`s number one and I am thankful he has joined us to be part of the vehicle which will endeavour to do that. He has a great desire to become the best he can possibly be and this is something I demand from all the players I work with.’

The gaffer goes on to praise the upbringing he has had at Brighton and believes there are good cross overs in that ethos between the clubs and the way they do business so for him it was all thanks to everybody at The Amex for helping the deal to sail through – especially given the interest in the player this summer.

That shared vision was something Brighton manager Chris Hughton commented on when speaking about the move himself to their official website.

‘We want Christian to play regular first-team football as soon as possible and Bury will give him that opportunity. Bury are a club who have a similar playing philosophy to us, and in David Flitcroft I feel they have an excellent manager, who will be good for Christian. They have just moved into Manchester City’s old training facility in Carrington and, having won promotion last season, Bury are a club with ambitions to continue their progress.’

Adding that he believed this spell out would prove to be successful and of benefit to both clubs as well as the player himself.

Walton was their regular bench number 2 in 2014-15 and he made his debut against Tottenham Hotspur in the League Cup, and then went on to make three more appearances before the end of the season.

In those games he kept clean sheets against Wigan Athletic and Middlesbrough as well as representing England at Under 20 level.
