It was a top of the table clash at the weekend, with Bury coming out on top to claim top spot.

Bury went into the meeting with Burton Albion sitting in second spot, but following the meeting at Gigg Lane it is now us that lead the way in league 2 after a 3-1 win.

You couldn’t separate the sides at half time, with the sides level at nil-nil.

Within minutes of the restart we were ahead though with Daniel Nardiello (48) making an instant impact, having come off the bench, to give us the lead when he beat Jon McLaughlin when through one-one-one with him.

By the hour the game was very much in our hands as Ryan Lowe (57) converted the second.

When Shane Cansdell-Sherriff’s backpass put Burton ‘keeper McLaughlin in trouble, unable to get back and recover it was left to Nardiello (66) to slide home the third and put the game out of reach of our opponents.

Jacob Blyth (88) came off the bench to head home a Stuart Beavon cross two-minutes from time for Burton but it was too little too late with as we ran out three-one winners.

After the game boss David Flitcroft told BBC Radio Manchester: ‘We’ve been putting an infrastructure in place, we’ve been putting something in to get performances like that and find that consistency.

‘People talk about winning and winning and winning, but if you look at the performance, and as a coach or manager, you concentrate on the performance, the wins come out of that.

‘They’re a fantastic group. The football display today was breathtaking, completely destructive at times.’
